The Process Of Meeting Medical School Requirements Requires Planning And Focus

The medical school requirements differ from university to university but there are some common elements that you should be thinking about if pondering the idea of trying to attend medical school.  You will need to have a Bachelor's degree but it does not necessarily have to be in the sciences.  Your B.S. degree can be just about any major.  However, there are certain courses that you should have in order to meet the requirements that medical schools are wanting you to have.

Most medical schools require one year of biology, one year of organic chemistry, and one year of inorganic chemistry.  They will also expect you to have a physics course with lab, one year of English, and one year of calculus.  Additional math classes are also advised for additional medical school requirements that you should consider. It will also be expected that you have around a 3.5 grade point average to meet medical school requirements because competition to get into medical school is very stiff.

You also need to have an outstanding score on the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT).  You will need to review and study hard for this four part exam.  The better the score the better your chances of gaining admission into the medical school of your choice. As part of your preparation for medical school requirements you should try to gain some experience in a medical setting.  Try to set up opportunities to shadow a doctor at his office or in a hospital setting.  Doing community service in a medical health care facility would also qualify as good experience.  You need to show a passion for the medical profession by doing some work related to the health care industry.

The important thing about medical school requirements is knowing what to expect and knowing what to take.  It is always wise to check with the medical school university to see exactly what the medical school requirements are so you can work on them one step at a time.  It is always wise to have a plan of action for yourself to follow when thinking about medical school and all of the requirements necessary to be eligible for admission.  You must be well focused and stay "on top" of the situation at all times.  Medical schools do change and make adjustments in their requirements from time to time.  You also need to be thinking about financing your education.  Medical school is very expensive and it takes planning to prepare for the cost of your education.

the toughest thing I ever experienced was trying to qualify for several schools I wanted to get into. I did everything to prepare, at least I tried to, but got a reality check when I thought this was going to be cake, I was ready, and found I just barely qualified. I shouldn't have assumed that just making the grade and getting my bachelors would be enough. Schools these days are in high demand and only a fraction get in so it would be in your best intrest to not just try to reach the goals you need but far surpass them!
