The Medical School Application Is The First Step In Becoming A Physician

If you are applying to medical schools or are interested in becoming a medical student there are some basics that you need to know.   Many students who are anticipating filling out the medical school application are curious as to what is on the form.   Is it much different then the standard form that you would see on a college or university application?   What is the cost for submitting an application to a medical school?   If you have questions or fears about the medical school application, here is some information that should prove useful.

You will be happy to learn that the typical medical school application is very similar to all of those other applications that you have been filling out for years.   The major difference is that this time you are filling out an application to get into a medical school.   The stakes are much greater and the anticipation is at a much higher level.   If you focus in on the task and follow the directions and the guideline you will have no trouble doing this particular application.

The typical medical school application contains all those good things about your life.   Name, address, phone number, etc, etc.   All you have to do is follow the steps and the guidelines.   The big differences are in the requested information.   For medical school they will want your MCAT scores.   That is the Medical College Admissions Test scores. In case you are unaware, the MCAT is a test required by just about every medical college.   It consists of four parts including: Physical Sciences, Biological Sciences, Verbal Reasoning, and a Writing Sample usually consisting of two essay questions that you have to respond.   It is important to do well because a major portion of your admissions review is most likely based on your scores.   Your G.P.A. is also very important in the review process.

As part of the medical school application you will be required to write a personal statement.   This should be two to four pages of your philosophy of becoming a medical doctor.   Most application packages will have guidelines for you to follow for the personal statement.   You will also have to submit letters of recommendation as part of the application package.   Medical schools will differ in the exact details for the admissions policy but these elements are fairly standard for all medical schools.   Also, pay close attention to deadlines.   These are important as well for the admissions process.   Finally there is a price tag for applying.   Most medical school charge application fees ranging from $100 to $250 for submitting an application.   This is a non-refundable charge regardless of any decision on your application.

The application seems very basic and simple but they really take this seriously and will check every inch of it to verify your information, if they run into any problems they will decline your application so be sure to alert anyone they need to contact to answer their phone!
